I’ve brought my family crest into the 21st Century. I traced the crest from a technical drawing my father did when he was young, in Adobe Illustrator. Now the Overbeeke family crest is fully digital and in vector format. My brother and I are thinking of creating an Overbeeke family genealogy website, and I was thinking we could use the crest as the website’s logo, or, at the very least, include this update version of our crest in the records.
I don’t know much about the symbolism of our crest. Right now I can only guess. The three ducks and the chevron may represent the ducks by the stream. (“Overbeeke” means “over the creek/brook/stream” in Dutch.) I imagine the hounds coming out of the helmet represent courage or bravery or fierceness. I’d like to think that the helmet means will-power. (The Germanic root for my name, William–Wilhelm–means “helmet of will,” as in will-power.) I really like how the frilly lace on the sides turned out. That’s something that’s common in most family crests and heraldry, as I’ve seen.
